What Does DFHC Offer?
The Detroit Field Hockey Club has three major focuses within the sport of Field Hockey:
1. We offer Fall High School and Middle School teams that compete against the local private schools and clubs in southern Michigan as part of the MHSFHA and Middle School league.
2. Outside of the Fall season, we have a USAFH Club Team for u12, u14 and u16 (and u19 winter 2016) girls that compete at USAFH (USA Field Hockey/Team USA) events, and against other off season clubs in surrounding counties. We currently have players from 5 different MHSFHA teams that are members of our competitive club.
3. For those that aren’t old enough or still need development to compete for the USAFH Club or MHSFHA Team, we offer clinics open to players of all schools with a variety of different skill levels.
How We Started Off
We started in 2011 in an effort to bring a new team sports to girls in the local area. Our very first clinic was run as result of a grant from USA Field Hockey. Coach Genevieve Sports (now SNAPtivities.com) gave much of the local support and infrastructure needed in order to begin a club from the ground up. With the 20 years of recreational programing in Bloomfield Hills and 10 years Birmingham Schools, there was no better fit for running a field hockey club than SNAPtivities.
DFHC has grown to hold 5 competitive teams, consisting of players from over 10 different cities, and with over 100 participants both past and current. We have three main focuses — The Fall HS and MS season, USAFH tournaments and events, and off-season clinics.
We are your one stop shop for Field Hockey in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills. After years of development we have been able to take a sport once reserved for the few, and bring it to the athletes of our area successfully. Physical and Mental Fitness are at the core of our values, and we have been able to form a very competitive program while still staying true to our beliefs!
